Softwash or power washing?

The difference is how the dirt comes off. The wrong one can strip paint, scar wood or force water behind siding.

SoftwashPower washing
How it cleansA low-pressure rinse with cleaning solutions that break down dirt, mildew and algae.Higher water pressure that blasts grime off hard surfaces.
Best forVinyl and wood siding, painted surfaces, stucco and roofs.Concrete, pavers, stone patios, walkways and driveways.
Risk if misusedLow, when solutions are mixed and rinsed properly. Can etch wood, strip paint and drive water behind siding and windows.
Before paintingCleans siding so new paint bonds.Strips loose material from masonry and decks before coating.

Will power washing damage my siding?

It can if the pressure is wrong. That's why siding and roofs are soft washed, and higher pressure is kept for concrete, pavers and stone.

How often should a house be washed?

It depends on shade, trees and how close you are to the water. North sides and shaded walls usually need it first; many homes do well with a wash every year or two.

Do you wash before painting?

Yes. Washing is part of our exterior prep, so paint goes onto a clean surface.
